Various rules and standards have been established to ensure that car rental transactions are carried out safely, transparently, and smoothly. Below are the main requirements and procedures applicable to car rentals:
All personal information collected from customers during the car rental process is securely recorded and stored solely for the purpose of executing the rental transaction. This information is protected in accordance with relevant regulations; it is never shared with third parties or used for any other purpose.
Due to insurance and safety requirements, renters must be over a certain age. Typically, the minimum age is 21 for economy cars, 25 for mid-range and upper-segment cars, and 28 or above for luxury and large vehicles.
The driver must hold a valid driver’s license. For economy and standard vehicles, at least 2 years of driving experience is required, while for luxury and large vehicles, generally a minimum of 3 years is needed.
If the rented vehicle will be used by someone other than the primary driver specified in the contract, the additional drivers’ details must also be included in the agreement, and all conditions must be met. These individuals are subject to all rental terms.
Vehicles are usually rented for a minimum of one day (24 hours). For requests shorter than one day, the charge is calculated as a full day.
A mileage limit may apply to vehicles. If unlimited mileage is not offered, additional fees will be charged for exceeding the specified mileage limit.
The rental fee can be paid by credit card, bank transfer, or cash, depending on the company’s policy. In case of partial payment, the remaining amount is collected when the vehicle is returned.
A credit card pre-authorization may be taken as a security deposit for unforeseen costs such as traffic fines, missing fuel, damages not covered by insurance, or extra cleaning. This amount is only temporarily blocked for security and does not appear as a charge on your card.
All rental vehicles are covered by compulsory traffic insurance and rent-a-car comprehensive insurance. For the insurance coverage to remain valid, the vehicle must only be driven by the persons named in the contract, legal rules must be followed, and the vehicle must not be operated under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
If the vehicle is to be picked up from the airport, the customer must share their flight information in a timely manner. Vehicle delivery and return procedures can be carried out at the company’s designated addresses or at mutually agreed locations.
The fuel status at delivery is generally “full-to-full” or “empty-to-empty.” The applicable policy is stated in the contract, and the customer is required to comply with it.
Vehicles are equipped with automatic toll systems (OGS/HGS). All toll and bridge fees incurred during the rental period are collected from the customer upon vehicle return.
Car rental companies aim to provide the requested brand, model, or class according to customer preference. In case of unavailability, an equivalent or higher-class vehicle may be supplied in accordance with company policy.
Taking rental vehicles outside of Turkey is strictly prohibited in accordance with company policies, and this rule is enforced without exception.
Requests for cancellation and changes are handled according to each company’s policies. Some companies offer a refund in case of cancellation, while others may keep the payment as credit for future use. If there is a change in vehicle class, the price difference is reflected to the customer; otherwise, changes can be made free of charge.
Notice: The conditions stated here are for general informational purposes and may vary in detail between car rental companies. Before proceeding with a car rental, it is recommended to carefully review the current terms and contract of your chosen provider.
